Christ in a Red Robe
Description
Christ in a Red Robe
Minerva Teichert, 1945
Inspired by both Biblical and Book of Mormon passages, Teichert here presents an image of Christ returning to the earth clothed in the red robes of judgment. In the lower right corner, Teichert shows those who hide their faces in despair. In that day, their coins — signifying worldly wealth and success — cannot save them. On Christ’s right hand, followers look up and reach out to Him. They are those who have prepared and can abide the day of His return. His outstretched hands, still bearing marks of His crucifixion, remind us of His abundant mercy and the price He paid to offer us redemption. Scriptural reference: 3 Nephi 24:2, 2 Nephi 12:12, Isaiah 63:2, D&C 34:7 (Courtesy of the Church History Museum, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints)
