She is a woman who successfully combined both faith and family and left an extraordinary legacy of artistic production.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMinerva Kohlhepp was born in North Ogden, but grew up homestead farming in the vicinity of American Falls, Idaho. Her father encouraged her childhood sketching. Soon, she developed an “indomitable will to succeed and excel in the field of art.” She taught school to raise enough money to go to Chicago for her art studies.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eShe attended the Art Institute of Chicago and Art Students League of New York in the early 1900s. There, mural paintings and theatrical pageants were dynamic components of American popular culture. Teichert embraced these art forms. There he developed his signature style of unique compositions. These often featured low horizons and simplified, yet imposing clouds and rock formations in bold colors.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDixon also focused on preserving the image of Native American peoples whom he believed were disappearing from the American West. While married to the famous photographer Dorothea Lange, Dixon also focused on social realist subjects. These depicted people struggling to make a living during the Great Depression.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/moa.byu.edu\/\"\u003eThe Museum of Art at Brigham Young University\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eowns the largest collection of art by Maynard Dixon in the country.
